Sacraments

The Sacraments, which "touch all stages and all the important moments of Christian life: they give birth and increase, healing and mission to the Christian’s life of faith." (CCC #1210)

First and foremost, all sacraments are an encounter with Christ, who is Himself the original sacrament. Reflecting natural life and Christian life, the sacraments can be ordered as follows:

Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist (Communion).

Sacraments of Healing: Reconciliation (Confession, Penance), Anointing of the Sick.

Sacraments at the Service of Communion: Matrimony, Holy Orders.

Participants in the RCIA are known as catechumens. They undergo a process of conversion as they study the Gospel, profess faith in Jesus and his Catholic Church, and receive the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and Holy Eucharist.
